The Science of Reading is a comprehensive body of multi-disciplinary research across education, psychology and cognitive neuroscience. This research provides a deep understanding of how we learn to read, the skills involved and the parts of the brain that are responsible. The Science of Reading has demystified how we learn to read and shows how teaching by whole word memorization is limited. Overall, the Science of Reading provides an evidence-based practice approach for the teaching of Rainbow Phonics.

The Rainbow Phonics Teacher Planners feature daily and weekly lesson plans for the Rainbow Phonics Systematic Synthetic Phonics Program across an entire school year. Where applicable the planners introduce Decodable Readers from Beanstalk Books as well as manipulatives and resources from Junior Learning. The free Lesson Slideshows follow the daily lesson structure, working alongside the Teacher Planners and Supplementary Resources.

A decodable reading book is a book that only contains phonetics that a child has already learnt. For instance, a child starting out in the earliest stages of reading who has learnt the sounds s / a / t / p, would be able to decode words in a book such as at, sat, tap, and pat. Therefore, the decodable book would only contain these words and would not introduce any unfamiliar letters and sounds.

The Beanstalk Books Decodable Readers range are all 100% decodable. Our reading program is designed to help children build on their reading success and feel a sense of accomplishment as they work their way through each decodable story. Each set of books follows children week-by-week through the program providing them text-based context to practice their emerging reading skills. Every story in both the fiction, and non-fiction range of books, has been written with a strictly controlled text.  

Rainbow Phonics offers free Lesson Slideshows as part of its Systematic Synthetic Phonics Program. These slideshows follow each daily lesson detailed in the Rainbow Phonics Teacher Planners, and provide an interactive classroom display to aid in phonics instruction.
