Rainbow Phonics is committed to providing high-quality for class teachers, assistants and leaders in school. Training takes place via online or face-to-face sessions booked through this website. Specific training on the Science of Reading can also be provided.
A decodable text is a reader that only contains the letter sounds a child has already learned. For instance, a child starting out in the earliest stages of reading who has learnt the sounds s / a / t / p, would be able to decode words in a book such as at, sat, tap, and pat. Therefore, the decodable reader would only contain these words and would not introduce any unfamiliar letters and sounds.
Each Rainbow Phonics lesson follows a standard format: objective, teach, practice and apply, and is design to last for around 25 minutes. The teaching component works with supporting materials, to explicitly teach phonemic awareness, letter sound, decoding, as well as any heart words or sight words at the level.
Each grade level Teacher Planners provides a year of planning at your fingertips. A calander is provided in the front, and the scope and sequence is matched to the four quarters of the school year. Lesson guides are provided weekly and daily. Revision sections are also included in the calander, as well as summative and formative assessments.
The Science of Reading is a comprehensive body of multi-disciplinary research across education, psychology and cognitive neuroscience. This research provides a deep understanding of how we learn to read, the skills involves and the parts of the brain that are responsible.
Rainbow Phonics is based on the Science of Reading to explicitly teach word recognition and decoding skills. The Scope and Sequence sets the pace of the program which is detailed and thorough. Over the course of four years, children will go from emergent readers to complete fluency, with explicit instruction and application through decodable texts.
