Description

K-Grade Training Workshop

Students in Grade K are taught phase 2 (first 21 letter Sounds), phase 3 (next 18 letter sounds), and phase 4 (adjacent consonants / blends) within the Rainbow Phonics Scope and Sequence.

This under-30-minute training video from Jessica Farmer provides an overview of Rainbow Phonics at grade K.  Jessica explains how Rainbow Phonics is grounded in the Science of Reading and follows a clear Scope and Sequence for graphemes and heart words.

Decodable readers are introduced from week 2, each aligned to the Scope and Sequence.  The Teacher Planner for K Grade introduces the lesson with teach, practice and apply sections, following the teaching strategy of I do, we do, you do.  Every lesson has daily matching slides.  These are available FREE from the RainbowPhonics.com website and editable.

This workshop provides an example of teaching letter sound ‘i’ and the daily lesson slides associated with the lesson.  The focus is on phonemic awareness, grapheme-to-phoneme conversion, letter formation, decoding words, blending phonemes, encoding words, assessment, heart words, decodable sight words, and decodable word building practice.
